January Trip to the Magic House Fun
It is always an exciting day when we head to the Magic House. The class had a blast the first part of the trip exploring around in Little Bit of Magic.

Inside the Mouse House

Next we moved on to the Water Room.

The last stop was for story and activity time. We heard stories of winter. The children were able able make snowflakes of noodles, dress up snowman with hats, mittens, and scarfs, match mittens, create jeweled snowmen and were able to listen to bird sounds.

Creating Our Life Size Snowmen
After the children had themselves traced, they practiced their best cutting.  The next step was to decorate them. They are so creative! Each snowman is unique. They are hanging around the classroom and in the hallway.

 Marshmallow Counting

Playing with FOAM! Strengthening our finger muscles.

Building is always a favorite activity. The students love figuring out different ways to build things.

 Tan-gram Snowflakes
Using tan-gram shape stampers the children were able to come up with their own snowflake ideas.

 Sugar Snow Painting

Journal: "In the winter I like to....."

Finding Letters in the Snow
Students search for all the letters of the alphabet in "snow"-filled sensory bottles, and mark them off their alphabet sheet.

 Other Writing Activities:
Making a poster for the classroom

Not much room left at the writing center!

Finding letters to spell winter words.

Letter, Words and "How Do you Spell?"
The students have displayed a lot of excitement about writing on their own. The children have become independent in wanting to write their own words and letters. We encourage them to write in both capital and lower case letters.
The following pictures show the class participating in Word Around the Room.  Here they have a clipboard, pencil and picture sheet. Next, they search the room finding the different winter words, and writing the matching word on their sheet.

Water Beads
Water beads are actually just floral beads.  They start off very, very small and grow when placed in water. The class watched them grow throughout the day.

Musical Annie!
Yes, with the release of Annie in the theaters the children have been recreating the movie through song and play.

Yep, even waxing the floor.

Snack Time FUN!
Our favorite snack is animal crackers. Lots of learning goes on with these little crackers. Some created their own zoos, others sorted out the crackers and counted to which pile was the smallest and the largest, and others made a picture frame to eat their way around.

 Hibernation Tubes
The class started production on painting their hibernation tubes. Each child will be crafting their own hibernation home for their stuffed animal. We are learning about hibernation and which animals hibernate and which do not.

 Highlight of the Week:
One of our classmates brought in his new favorite books for share time,
The Book With No Pictures By B.J. Novak
The whole book is about the adult having to read just what the books says, even if it makes the adult look silly.  I have never heard them laugh so hard. Such a wonderful sound.

Blessings on your week!
