Candy Corn Festival
Monday October 27th at Webster Gardens from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM
The last week we finished up our Ark teamwork projects. It has been rewarding to see and hear all the conversations and joys of the children working together to solve problems and make decisions. We are very proud of them.
Blending Colors
We have been working on science experiments with crayons. First, the students were given crayons to put in rainbow order. Next, they were given hair dryers to try to melt the crayons and observe what would happen. A few times we stopped melting for the day and had to restart the next day. The class was amazed to see the crayons become hard again over night.
While we were melting crayons with hair dryers, the children also found out what happens to crayons if we melt them on warming trays. Smiles came out when the students would mix the colors together to form other colors.
Using both graphing and alphabet recognition, our class used the month "October" to see which letter matched the most names in our class. Yes, it looks like we spelled October wrong, but it was pointed out by one of the children that we already used "O" once. They are learning every day!
Mission Project: CCLS-U
The children have been learning about our sister school in Uganda. This has been an incredible partnership over the years. The children were very eager to collect items to fill up our suitcase.
The 4-year-old class collected totals of these items:
9 Tubes of Toothpaste
23 Toothbrushes
4 Neosporin Tubes
3 Bottle of Headache Medicine
14 Boxes of Band-Aids
1 Bag of Suckers (Dr. Kent gives them out after shots)
24 Pencils
4 Boxes of Allergy Meds and Pedialyte
$18.00 for Mrs. Katie to purchase other meds as needed

Another Science Reaction:
The children were able to observe another reaction using permanent markers and rubbing alcohol.
They took a piece of fabric and created a picture or design with the permanent markers. Next, they used their "pincher skills" of filling up a pipette with rubbing alcohol and applying it all over the fabric, causing the colors to spread and form more colors.
Creating Patterns
Our class has been learning about patterns. We have been making patterns when we line up and with different items in our class.
A few of the girls took paper and markers and created their own pattern cards.

Each month we take a picture of the children to show their changes throughout the school year. The picture below shows them working on our October Photo Journal. The children cut out their photo (documenting fine motor), write out the month (hand writing and letter recognition), and add stickers to decorate.
Selecting Books
Each month, the children are invited to look through the book orders and select books they think we should read in our classroom.
TEAMWORK!
