Pumpkin Week!
Our class had two pumpkins to carve and
turn into jack o'lanterns.
The children first created the type of pumpkin face they wanted.
Next, we took the different ideas and made a voting grid.
Then, since the children love to vote, they voted for what type of eyes, nose and mouth they would like. Also, they voted whether the pumpkin should have ears. Then, the children counted the votes to see which shape was preferred. During this activity, we talked about how when you vote, you are supporting your "idea", yet your "idea" might not always win. Sometimes it is hard not to win,but we can still work as a team.
Then came the fun part- digging out the seeds. A few brave friends dug in the pumpkin.
All the seeds were scooped out and cooked for snack the next day.
Above, you see the finished pumpkins at the end of the week. The children were very sad to see them go, but we said goodbye until next pumpkin season.
Checking out the Gourds!
The gourds were pretty cool, but checking out how a magnifying glass works was even more engaging!
Finishing the Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin Story Board
The children worked on putting together their own story board. Working on their cutting skills, they cut out the six squares and put them in number order, 1 to 6. Next, they went square by square adding details to the story of how a pumpkin grows.
Counting and Number Recognition
The children worked on two different counting cards. For one set of cards, they counted out a number of items and placed in the jar. For the other set of cards, they counted out the number of spiders listed on the different cards.
Letter Understanding
The children have been exploring letters and are attempting to spell words.
Trick or Treat Bags
You must have a bag to go Trick or Treating.
The children found the letters in their names on the sticker sheets and then decorated their treat bags.
Trick or Treating at Manor Grove
It has become a long-standing tradition that the three and four-year-old children venture to Manor Grove Nursing Home and visit the "Grandmas" and "Grandpas" to go trick or treating. Each child did wonderful with their manners and their positive behavior.
Day TWO!
IT WAS MUCH COLDER!
But, we did not let the wind and the cold stop us. We bundled up and headed down the street to Manor Grove. The Grandmas and Grandpas were so excited to see us. The children again used such good manners with lots of "please" and "thank yous!" We were so very proud of them!
Lego Junior Magazine!
After nap time on Friday these friends were able to check out the latest issue of Lego Junior Magazine. Each of the children will receive an issue in their cubbie, they arrive about every two months.
